LastBarrel

H.E. Pogue III stands behind the last barrel of Pogue Bourbon being moved from the Pogue Distillery, #6796, in 1926. The barrels of many distilleries were moved to a federal government “consolidated warehouse”, so that the government could keep closer track of the barrels during Prohibition. A local newspaper account at the time stated that “So many thousands of barrels had entered and departed that if turned into terms of money at bootleg prices it would far exceed the nation debt. The passage of the Volstead Act made sure the passing of this business.” The H.E. Pogue Distillery was eventually used to produce industrial alcohol for WWII.
