Measuring Stick

This old and broken measuring stick saved the life of Henry Edgar Pogue II when working on the grain mill in the distillery. Anna Bell Pogue, HEP II’s wife, wrote on the outside of the above envelope “Ruler that was in his left vest pocket when Bud Sr. was caught in machinery at distillery. This saved his life - part of ruler destroyed”. Mr. Pogue II was repaing the mill when it suddenly broke free and the steam driven gears of the device grabbed his arm. He was able to take this measuring stick from his vest pocket and jam the gears in order to free himself before an unfortunate and horrible end. This old measuring stick saved his life and Old Pogue would not be here today without it.
